VISION

 

          Establishing the Chair as a centre of excellence in research to develop, support and promote EBHC and Knowledge Translation at King Saud University will play a leading role at all levels – local, regional and international. The university’s community and members of society at large will benefit from its activities services and research results and thus satisfy their needs in all EBHC-related situations, ensuring proper application by highly qualified and experienced professionals in such a way that guarantees continuity in all health sectors in and outside the country and at all health care locations.

 

 

MISSION

 

The Research Chair will be a neutral, reliable source, and its activities and the quality of its results will enhance the performance of the health system and make EBHC a reality through creative initiatives, new mechanisms, research, education, networking, coordination, integration and exchange of reviews, information and experiences. In this way, it will be a vital scientific centre for professionals and a source of strong support for the quality of EBHC contributing to the improvement of community health through clinical practice and health education based on evidence, and ensuring fairness and equality in health services for the community as a whole.

 

OBJECTIVES

 

  • Conduct EBHC-related research, including systematic reviews of research results, evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and adapt them for local use and encourage the writings of books, translation and publish research in this field.
  • Develop enlightened academic and professional thinking in the area of the Chair’s specialization by enhancing the technical team’s academic and professional performance, giving researchers and all parties concerned the opportunity to adapt the EBHC approach, boost its academic and professional progress and turn it into practice.
  • Develop the EBHC culture by organizing special beginner and advanced training courses for all workers in different health sectors and make them an essential component of undergraduate and postgraduate curricula at faculties of medicine and allied medical sciences and subscribe to databases to enable everyone to have instant access to the strongest and most recent research results and apply them during clinical practice.
  • Coordinate and foster relations and facilitate the exchange of scientific and professional ideas (networking) in EBHC and knowledge translation among the institutions and centers in and outside the country, such as WHO and the Oxford Center for EBM.
  • Offer advice and carry out studies to raise the standard of performance in evidence-based areas in various health care organizations.
  • Offer advice and carry out studies to translate and disseminate existing evidence-based interventions to health care organizations in Saudi Arabia.
  • Play a central role in establishing and updating the standards of EBHC and share in performance assessment and quality assurance.
  • Promote the principle of partnership between patients and the community at large on the one hand and health practitioners, on the other, and take evidence-based decisions related to patient and community health by setting up databases in Arabic for laymen (non-specialists. These databases will be regularly updated and will summarize the same scientific body of evidence that health care professionals refer to when taking care of their patients.
